Brahms and Beethoven music at the Bowl

On Thursday evening August 29th we enjoyed a wonderful night of music and picnic with neighbor John and daughter Denise.  The program began with the Brahms "Tragic Overture" followed by a wonderful Beethoven's third piano concerto played by Paul Lewis.  The night was frosted by Brahms Symphony no. 2.

Paul Lewis
The conductor for the evening was the thirty-year-old David Afkham from Freiberg, Germany.  He is the son of a German mother and Iranian fathers and led the orchestra with emotion...stiff at first but smiling and fully enjoying himself by the end of the night....we enjoyed his expressions via the camera views displayed on the jumbo screen near us.

Paul Lewis is a 41 year-old pianist from Liverpool, England...the son of a dock worker who found his success in music.  It was a wow evening...one of many this summer at the Bowl.
