Solano Beach on S. Cedros Ave. Roaming on Tuesday

My friend Tom and I roamed into the Aaron Chang gallery and we were delighted with his creations.  We talked to Aaron Chang and learned that he had been the main photographer for Surfer Magazine for 25 years and now has opened two galleries, one in San Diego and the one we visited.  He, his wife and two boys live in Encinitas and he is active in the local community.  He is a avid surfer with one of the photos taken by a friend showing him surfing off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.  He takes his camera into the wave and shoots amazing pictures showing light as it is refracted by the sky and water.  He has traveled to 40+ countries taking pictures that have been on the covers of over 100 magazines.  He also has a photo driven apparel line in Victoria Secret, Macy's and Urban Outfitters.

His mission statement reads:  "I seek, through photographs, to convey a sense of wonder with the amazing architecture of life.  It is in the overwhelming perfection of the design that I find God.  It is my hope that when presented with the beauty and majesty of His creations, viewers might ponder the gift of life given to us so freely.  It is our nature to easily become blinded to this beauty and to forget what a wonder it is to be alive.  My hope would be that my photographs cause the viewer to appreciate what surrounds them and the joy of being."

His large works are mounted and then covered with a high gloss finish..."just like a car finish" he said.  Here are a few.  You can also go on You Tube and see several videos on Aaron Chang.  I shared them and my photos with the veterans at the V.A. yesterday and they seem to enjoy them.

"Del Mar Rivermouth, CA"  This photo was shot during a Santa Ana December afternoon.  The surfer in the wave is David Kennedy.

"21 Dolphins," was taken in La Jolla at Black's beach.  Aaron calls this a photo sculpture board with a board under the surface to accentuate the 21 Dolphins....the photo is about 8 feet long, so I have taken a picture of just 14 dolphins..

"Cardiff Reef, Cardiff-By-The Sea, CA"  Aaron writes "A perfect set fires on the reef at Cardiff making this day one to remember."

An after flow of the setting sun is captured in this photo in Bali, Indonesia

These paintings are from another gallery we visited down the street.  This one is by Wade Koniakowsky who captures Polynesian dreamscapes.

The above two paintings are by Matt Beard (yes his photo shows he has a full beard).  "Matt Beard currently resides behind the Redwood Curtain of Humbolt County, but his artwork is widely recognized all over the world."
