On Thursday night we went back to the Hollywood Bowl and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for a performance of Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto called "The Emperor" (even though Beethoven later with drew his description of Napoleon when he most of Europe) and a performance of Shostakovitch's 5th Symphony. The soloist for the piano concerto was Yundi Li, a 32 year old from China. Like many stars, he now goes by one name, Yundi.
James Gaffigan was the conductor for the evening. He energetically inspired much emotion from the orchestra.
