I visited the Autry museum on Saturday afternoon and enjoyed their two special exhibits. One was on Katsina Dolls in Hopi Life. They had an impressive display of dolls and videos with displays on the dry farming life of the Hopi in North East Arizona. The pamphlet states that the Katsina are spiritual beings to the Hopi and are Divine messengers who deliver the people's prayers to the higher power. "The Katsina spirits sing and dance in underground kivas in outdoor village plazas...intended as teaching tools, tithu are displayed in Hopi homes to serve as reminders of important Hopi beliefs and values."
The second exhibit was "California's Designing Women 1896-1986." This exhibit "celebrates the work of women who, as designers and entrepreneurs, exemplified California's extraordinary role in American commercial design and fine craft."
